Masonry Paints

JUST SLAP IT ON?

Without question conventional masonry paint is the most widely used exterior “treatment” by far. But what makes it the first choice for so many people?

Mainly because of the:-

-Initial cost

-Availability

-Ease of  use

So due to the fact that anybody can access or use these products they have to be ultra safe and this impacts on their life expectancy and performance. So exterior maintenance not being the most thought provoking of subjects this choice is a matter of course for some.

SO WHY REINVENT THE WHEEL?

The application of masonry paint only really deals with the appearance. So when you stand back and admire your handy work you don’t fell the need to complain about the product you have applied. So in this sense they do serve a purpose. But the thickness or body is nowhere near enough to offer any meaningful protection. It would of course be possible to create a product that was thick enough but this would be virtually impossible to apply by hand, (worst case scenario) or just hard labour (best case scenario) and so in terms of protection and therefore lifespan any conventional masonry paint is somewhat limited.

HOW DO OUR COATINGS COMPARE?

So with our modern coating products ( they’ve actually been around since the early 1960’s) the approach is much more inclusive. Simply put our system firstly deals with any building work or refurbishment issues (so similar to getting the builder in) and then takes care of the appearance aspect (similar to the decorators)  although our products differ because they are:-

FLEXIBLE

WATERPROOF

BREATHABLE

-Pictured above is a simple demo of the microporisity of our products; the lower chamber is filled with a breeze block section and fixed around the edges to create an air tight seal. The cream colour substance is wall coating. This is then submerged under water. When the lower chamber is pressurised we can clearly see the lemonade type effect, this therefore shows us that although the coating appears solid it in fact contains tiny micropors that allow the travel of moisture through one direction only. So it allows moisture out but is still waterproof; Please note we don`t expect our customers houses to be under pressure but causing an overpressure allows the naked eye to view the process.   The breathability is crucial both from a damp prevention and thermal efficiency perspective. The breathability actually allows walls to dry out and stay dry.

THERMALLY EFFICIENT

So with ordinary paint very little thermal benefits are achieved, whereas with our wall coatings when the walls dry out the affected area(s) are not only more comfortable but will also cost less to heat, so Savings can be made because our customers are no longer paying to heat cold damp walls, which will help to offset the initial cost. Of course as the heating bills increase so do the savings!

SO WHERE TO SPEND THE MONEY FOR MAINTENANCE?

There will always be a cost to maintain a building, so the issue is NOT to spend the money or keep it, but where to spend it:-

the second cost of a coating installation is proportionately less because the initial application protects the building and so a re-coat is a simple activity. As we can see above the total spend on coating over a 30 year period is LESS than just 15 years of masonry paint! But the biggest deciding factor for most people is that this ever appreciating large asset (their home) is protected over the long term at today’s prices. And because fewer applications are required it’s also kinder to the environment 🙂
